Hampton's Portfolio 8, Shinnecock, Unofficial Entry to The Hamptons?

If you have spent some time in the Hamptons you may have heard that crossing the Shinnecock Canal heading east is supposedly the "unofficial" demarcation line of where the "Hamptons"* begin- sort of like a Mason-Dixon line. Some of these residents even want to break away from their current county, Suffolk, to form a new one called "Peconic" county- where would the lines be drawn then? What do you think? Do you agree, disagree? What about Westhampton, Hampton Bays and the rest...? Where do you believe the "Hamptons" begins? Please comment

Brookhaven National Laboratory, which originally was owned by the Atomic Energy Commission, is now owned by the Commission's successor, the United States Department of Energy, which subcontracts Stony Brook University and Battelle Memorial Institute. BNL was operated by Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI), from 1947 until 1998 when Associated lost the contract in the wake of a scandal when tritium leaked into the Long Island Central Pine Barrens groundwater on which it sits.

Located with the laboratory in Upton is the New York forecast office of the National Weather Service. BNL is staffed by approximately 3,000 scientists, engineers, technicians, and support personnel, and hosts 4,000 guest investigators every year. Discoveries made at the lab have won seven Nobel Prizes.

Watch for my upcoming, Alternative Portfolio 6, my visit to the Brookhaven National Laboratory  The National Lab was open for visit this summer (2014) in what it called "Summer Sundays" event. This is a rare occasion for the National Lab with the country's largest atom smashing particle accelerator, RHIC, Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, to open it's doors to the public. It was an honor and a privilege to visit and photograph some of the wonderful places in this site. The staff along with the scientist I got to meet and the cool experiments I got to see were simply amazing. I am proud of these scientist and engineers who do such a great job. If anyone from  the Lab is reading this please help out architecture and contact me, I would love to photograph more of the architecture there for my blog! (Won't happen I know) Unfortunately the conditions I took my photos under did not allow for my usual artistic point of view shots sorry....under the circumstances, it was the best I could do.

Alternative Portfolio 5, TWA Flight Center

The TWA Flight Center or Trans World Flight Center, opened in 1962 as a standalone terminal at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) for Trans World Airlines.

Though portions of the original complex, designed by Eero Saarinen, have been demolished, the Saarinen-designed terminal (or head house) has been renovated, partially encircled by and serving as a ceremonial entrance to a new adjacent terminal completed in 2008. Together, the old and new buildings comprise JetBlue Airways' JFK operations and are known collectively as Terminal 5 or simply T5.

The City of New York designated both the interiors and the exteriors of the Saarinen terminal a historic landmark in 1994 and in 2005 the National Park Service listed the Trans World Flight Center on the National Register of Historic Places.

With the recent tragedies of MH17 and MH370 these are sad times for aviation indeed.
